Did you know that only 6% of UK students studying STEM subjects at University are black?
We want to help change that by supporting students to complete a Youth STEMM Award and develop a portfolio of achievements to support Sixth Form and University applications.
Black STEMM Futures is a joint initiative from the Wellcome Genome Campus and the Youth STEMM Award. We are working with groups of students from Black and other BAME backgrounds at schools across London and the South of England.
Public Engagement Team, Wellcome Connecting Science at the Wellcome Genome Campus
The Public Engagement Team – part of Wellcome Connecting Science – at the Wellcome Genome Campus is a group of passionate enthusiasts whose mission is to share the world of genomics science with public and schools everywhere. We’re lucky to share our mission with pioneering scientists in the world-class facilities of the Sanger Institute and European Bioinformatics Institute driving some of the most exciting (and potentially life-changing) science in the world.
Youth STEMM Award
The Youth STEMM Award (YSA) is a skills award to support and inspire the next generation into STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine). Our mission is to encourage a much wider participation in STEMM and increase the diversity of our future workforce. The YSA provides a framework to add impact and greater legacy to stand alone STEMM outreach activities while building confidence and a sense of achievement.
About the Black STEMM Futures Blog
The Black STEMM Futures Blog provides a place for the programme’s participants to showcase their work and share with a wider audience. It is run and supported by the Public Engagement Team, but all student blogs are written by the participating students.
